Florida Off the Beaten Path– ROAD TRIPS!
I have to admit by far one of my favorite ways to explore all the things we love about Florida Living is behind the wheel of my car. I love to drive! Just thinking about a road trip and my mind starts to sing, “Get your motor running, Head out on the highway… Born to be W..I..I..I..L..D!” I could fill a page of all my faves, but here are just a few to get you started.
Hontoon Island State Park
The Secluded Island
This island is only accessible by private boat or park ferry. Discover the beauty of Central Florida and the evidence of Native American habitation over thousands of years on this little secluded island. Many nature trails, biking, canoeing, and camping offered. Check out all the things this island has to offer.
Rock Springs at Kelly Park
All Time Family Favorite
If I had to pick one place to be my all time favorite destination with my family in Central Florida, this would have to be the winner! The cool, sparkling blue water from this fresh fed spring is where it’s at. Pack a lunch or visit their concession stand for a relaxing lazy river experience. Visiting during the week is best, as weekends can get a little crowded. Also, smaller inner tubes work better for this lazy river. Check out this favorite destination spot!
Tarpon Springs
The Sponge Capital of the World
Tarpon Springs has always been a favorite for my family because of its Greek Heritage. While your hear you’ll definitely want to check out the Pier, Historic District, and grab some Greek food. Check out all the things to do here.
Sugar Mill Restaurant at Deleon Springs
A Hidden Gem
This is one of Central Florida’s hidden gems and one of my kid’s favorite childhood experiences. Each table comes with its own griddle where you can order pancake batter and your choice of toppings to cook up your own pancake creations. I tried to duplicate this experience at home, didn’t even come close! Once your belly is full, the spring offers swimming, canoeing, and a small little history center to tell the tales this place use to offer in it’s heyday. Check out all the things to do.
Sunshine Skyway Bridge St. Pete
Sun Drenched Beaches & More
Of all the beaches in Florida, St. Petersburg has to be one of my all time favorites. The powdery white sand beaches are like non other. Imagine your toes sinking into the soft feel of powdered sugar, is the only way to explain this beautiful beach town. Getting there is half the fun! Check out all the things to do once you get there.
St. Augustine Bridge of Lions
Explore the Historic Coast
This place has so many things to do it might be difficult to just pick one, but here are a few of my favorites: Old Town Trolley Tour, Old Town Cycle Tour, Ponce Deleon Fountain of Youth, & The Black Raven Pirate Ship Cruise tour.
