1. Make a Memory Jar
Here’s a fun idea for New Year’s Eve: Decorate a “Memory Jar” to keep over the next 12 months. Every time something incredible happens, write about it on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. On New Year’s Eve 2022, you can open the jar and take a walk down memory lane.
2. Movie Night
Light a few candles, throw a few pillows down, and settle in with some snacks for a cozy holiday you’ll always remember. Hhere are a few hidden gems that may not be on the top ten list, but are worth the watch:
- Mr Right
- About Time
- Bridget Jone’s Diary
- When Harry Met Sally
- Cliffy
- Poseidon’s Adventure (Original Version)
- Blinded by the Light
- The Art of Racing in the Rain
- A Dog’s Journey
3. Dance Party
It doesn’t matter if you’re home alone or not — the best way to get ready for the new year is by busting a move. Find a virtual dance party if you need to — we promise there are tons — or simply turn up the music and get grooving.
4. Karaoke
Now you don’t even need a karaoke machine to bellow out your favorite tunes. Microphone or not you can find plenty of your favorite songs with the lyrics to sing along. Simply search the internet for your favorite song with a link for the lyric version and sing high and loud! For a fun twist you could make your own music video of your karaoke night.
5. Breakfast for Dinner
One of our favorite things to do when we are looking to change things up a bit is have breakfast for dinner. It makes us feel like real rebels without doing something too crazy.
6. At Home Photo Booth
Every year we would host a Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day. Some of our fondest memories are of the photos we took with the our homemade photo props with sayings like, “Nice Speedo” or “Nice Party Outfit”. We just cut out cardboard shaped as a message bubble and taped a pencil for the prop handle. We also added oversized lips, mustaches, silly glasses and hats. Oh! And don’t forget the feather boas.
7. Make a 2021 Bucket List
We are all about bucket lists. Instead of creating a list of a 100 things you’d like to do in your lifetime, why not create a bucket list for the year. Think of one thing you’d like to do each month and pin the list somewhere you’ll see it. Then each month do one thing on your list of 12 things you’d like to do in 2021!
8. Create a Vision Board
Vision boards can be very powerful and who doesn’t like to dream big! You can cut or print photos you find of things you’d like to vision in your life. The sky is the limit, so let yourself create a vision of all the things you love and want. If your a Pinterest fan, you can create your vision board on your Pinterest account and add to it throughout the year.
9. Game Night
Why not host a game night? One thing 2020 has taught us, is you can spend time with loved ones near and far through Facetime or video meet up groups like Zoom. You can find a ton of games like Scattegories, Bingo, and Family Feud on Etsy. If you’re calling into a party on video chat, there are also plenty of games to play on Zoom.
10. Make Some Noise
One of our kids favorite thing to do was bang on pots and pans at midnight. When they were younger we would countdown to their bedtime. As soon as the clock struck their time for bed, we would head outside and bang, clang, and make some noise!
